Putnam County Sheriff Deputies responded to State Route 312 in the Town of Southeast on Thursday, Feb. 21 on the report of a two-car accident.
Further investigation revealed that one of the drivers involved in the crash, 19-year-old Dylan Stefanelli of New Fairfield, was allegedly impaired by drugs, police say.
Officers allegedly found Suboxone and two hypodermic syringes in Stefanelli’s possession, which police say he did not have a prescription for.
Stefanelli was arrested and transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Upon discharge, he was transported and processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility. His charges include:
- Driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor
- Possession of a hypodermic instrument, a misdemeanor
Stefanelli was arraigned by the Honorable Justice Joseph Spofford of the Town of Carmel Justice Court on behalf of the Town of Southeast Justice Court. He was remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility and released after posting $1,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Southeast Justice Court at a future date.
